Elf on the Shelf Template
Download or print your free Elf PDF template below.
Don’t forget to print or display this on your screen the size you want your elf to turn out, so that you can compare the various parts as you felt them with the template.
If you print this template at 100% the elf will be just over 5 inches tall from the top of his head, not his hat, to his feet.
Materials Used to make the elf:
Jacob Carded Wool (for core of body)
I used needle felting wool in the following colours:
- Red
- White
- Pale Peach (for skin tone)
- Brown (for hair)
- Mid green (for collar)
- Black (for belt)
- Yellow (for belt buckle)
Please remember these colours are just what I chose to use and you can use different colours to create your own unique Elf on the shelf!
Also don’t forget you can use carded or tops wool, whichever you prefer.
Equipment used:
- Felting needles – I used a 36 Gauge triangular to felt the core head shape and attach the core wool to the pipe cleaners. I used a 40 Gauge triangular felting needle for everything else.
- Foam or mat to work on.
- Multi needle holder (optional)

If you’d like further help with needle felting details such as the belt buckle or mouth I have a downloadable PDF in my Etsy shop here. This gives in depth instructions on how to achieve beautifully neat eyebrows, eyes, noses, mouths and any other fine needle felted detail.
